Ingredients

  • 1 lb frozen or homemade meatballs fully cooked
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes freshly made or leftovers
  • 1½ cups brown gravy homemade or store-bought
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped parsley or green onions optional for garnish

Method

  1. Heat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  2. Evenly spread the mashed potatoes across the base of the prepared dish, seasoning with salt and pepper if you like.
  3. Arrange the cooked meatballs evenly on top of the mashed potatoes.
  4. Pour the brown gravy evenly over the layers to cover all the meatballs and potatoes.
  5. Scatter the shredded cheese on the top layer.
  6. Place the dish in the oven and bake uncovered for about 20 to 25 minutes, until everything is hot and the cheese has melted and is bubbling.
  7. Sprinkle chopped parsley or green onions on top for a fresh finish, then serve warm and enjoy a comforting family meal.

Notes

  • Try switching up the meatballs by using Italian-style, Swedish, or spicy varieties. You can also substitute the mozzarella or cheddar cheese with Parmesan, Gruyère, or a cheese blend. For added nutrition and flavor, toss in some roasted vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, or sautéed mushrooms.
