This 3 crosses blanket pattern shows three brown crosses on a small stepped hill, a tall centre cross with five short light rays above it, a smaller cross on the left and a medium cross on the right, on a soft cream background. The blanket is 32 stitches wide and 60 rows long, in 2 colors of very chunky yarn.

Follow the chart row by row: row 1 is the top row of the picture. If your method builds the blanket from the bottom edge up, start at row 60 and work up to row 1 so the crosses are not upside down. The written rows and the stitch-by-stitch guide above list every run of stitches with its color.

Close up of the centre cross

Very thick yarn makes every stitch a soft loop. This close-up shows the top of the tall centre cross and the five short light rays above it.

Seen from above, the three crosses, the small stepped hill and the light rays sit where the chart shows them, on the cream background.

How to start the 3 crosses blanket pattern

Rows 1 to 3 are all cream (32 cream stitches each), so you can start with one color. The first brown stitch comes in row 4, for the top light ray. If you start from the bottom edge instead, rows 60 to 51 are all cream and the first brown stitches come in row 50, at the feet of the crosses.

How to use this blanket chart

This chart is 32 stitches wide and 60 rows tall, with 2 yarn colors: 1,920 stitches in all. Every square is one stitch. Row 1 is the top row of the chart, and the written rows list their stitches from left to right.

Steps

  1. Make 32 stitches for the first row.
  2. Work row 1 of the chart, changing yarn wherever the color changes. The written rows and the guide list the stitches in order.
  3. Continue row by row to row 60.
  4. Finish the last row and secure the end.

The size of the finished blanket depends on your yarn, your method and your tension. Knit a small sample first and measure it before you buy yarn for the whole blanket. Read the rows in the order your method needs.
