How to read a row: 5 B means five beads of color B in a row. Row 1 is the top row of the chart, and the beads of each written row are listed from left to right, as you place them on the pegboard.
Work the rows from the top: row 1 first. Each row lists its beads from left to right. "skip 3" means leave 3 pegs empty.

This heart perler bead pattern is a classic red Valentine heart: a dark red outline, a bright red heart and a little white and pink shine on the top left. It is 17 pegs wide and 15 rows tall, so it fits on one large square pegboard, and it uses 167 beads in 4 colors.

Place the beads row by row, from row 1 at the top: the grey dots on the chart are pegs you leave empty. The bead count for every color is in the list, so you know how many to set aside (keep a few spares).

The Valentine heart, after ironing

These pictures are previews made on the computer from the chart, bead by bead: they are not photos of a real piece, and nobody has ironed this heart yet. Each bead sits exactly where the chart puts it.

Up close: a dark red outline all around, a bright red heart, and a little shine on the top left made of 4 white beads and 3 pink ones.

How to start the heart perler bead pattern

Row 1 is the top of the two lobes: skip 3 pegs, place 4 dark red beads, skip 3, place 4 dark red, skip 3. Rows 2 and 3 widen the lobes, and from row 4 the heart is 17 beads wide.

Here is the whole heart on one large square pegboard before ironing: the empty pegs around it stay empty, so the heart keeps its shape.

How to use this perler bead chart

This chart is 17 pegs wide and 15 rows tall, with 4 bead colors: 167 beads in all. Every colored square is one bead on one peg; a grey dot is a peg you leave empty. Row 1 is the top row of the chart, and the written rows list their beads from left to right.

Steps

  1. Place the beads of row 1 on the top row of pegs, from left to right.
  2. Continue row by row to row 15, checking each row against the chart.
  3. Cover the beads with ironing paper and iron them as your bead brand explains, until they fuse.
  4. Let the piece cool flat, then lift it off the pegboard.

This chart was checked by software, and nobody has ironed it yet. The colors on screen are close matches, not exact ones: compare them with your real beads before you start.
