This mushroom frog pony bead pattern shows a brave little frog in a mushroom-cap hat, raising a gray sword while it stands on an orange-capped mushroom with a burgundy rim, with autumn leaves and ferns around it, small yellow fireflies in the night sky and the words ON GUARD! in mustard yellow, all on a black background. The banner is 43 strands wide and 56 beads long, in 12 colors of pony beads.

Follow the guide strand by strand: tie each strand to the rod, then thread its beads from the top down. The bead count for every color is in the list, so you know how many to buy (get a few spares).

The On Guard frog tapestry, straight on

These pictures are previews made on the computer from the chart, bead by bead: they are not photos of a real banner, and nobody has made this one with real beads yet. Each bead sits exactly where the chart puts it.

Close up of the frog

The frog wears a mushroom-cap hat in pumpkin orange with white dots and a burgundy rim, and raises a sword made of light gray beads.

How to start the mushroom frog pony bead pattern

Strand 1 is the left edge of the banner: all 56 beads are black, so you can start with one color. Tie each new strand right next to the last one; the design begins a few strands in.

How to make this banner

This banner has 43 strands side by side, and every strand holds 56 beads: 2,408 beads in all, in 12 colors. The beads hang in straight columns, one strand per column.

What you need

Bead count

Steps

  1. Tie strand 1 to the left end of the rod.
  2. Thread its beads in the order of the guide: the first bead goes up against the rod, the last one is at the bottom.
  3. Tie a knot under the last bead so nothing slides off, then do strand 2 right next to it, and so on to strand 43.

The finished size depends on your beads: measure one bead and multiply by 43 across and 56 down. This banner has never been made with real beads, and the colors on screen are close matches, not exact ones. Make one strand first and check it against the picture.
